A more private, peaceful stay

A secluded nature retreat in the Auvergne
Opening April 2027

Welcome to Domaine Chez Gilbert

A small, secluded retreat in the heart of the Auvergne, just thirty minutes from Vichy. Five individual places to stay are tucked among tall trees on the banks of a beautiful running stream.

Come here to slow down, explore, eat well and enjoy the simple pleasure of having nowhere else you need to be.

Two family safari tents, each sleeping two adults and two children aged eight and over — and three retreats just for two. Fourteen guests in all, when we are full.

The stream running clear and shallow over golden stones, trees reflected on the surface, with a small stack of balanced stones on the near bank.
Clear enough to count the stones on the bottom. Somebody had already built a cairn.
The safari tent Le Ruisseau, lit from within at dusk, with a deep veranda holding a sofa, dining table and outdoor kitchen.

Stay

Five places among the trees

Two family safari tents with proper beds, cool linen, rugs underfoot and a wood-burning stove for cooler evenings. Three retreats just for two, each with its own veranda and its own view of the trees.

Nobody is ever within sight of your door.

Soak

A private Nordic bath, under the trees

Each of the three couples’ retreats is planned to have its own Nordic bath — hot water outdoors, the trees above you and nobody else in sight.

There will also be one small wood-fired sauna for everyone to share, built to suit the woodland rather than to look like a spa.

Planned for the April 2027 opening. Not yet installed — we will show you the real thing as soon as it is.

Breakfast on the veranda: a cafetiere of coffee, a croissant and jam on a scrubbed wooden table, wildflowers in a jar, and the stream running past the meadow beyond.
Design conceptBreakfast on your own veranda.

Eat

Good food, good wine, and nowhere to drive.

Come back from a day out, open something worth opening and eat well without getting into the car again. Bread from the village, cheese from nearby, and French wines we have chosen because we like them.

Or bring your own and cook on the veranda. Entirely up to you.

What we plan to serve →

A park in Vichy: a fountain playing on a still pond, fresh green trees along both banks and rooftops showing above them.

Explore

Vichy is thirty minutes away.

A UNESCO-listed spa town of parks, thermal baths and belle-époque architecture — and beyond it, the markets, villages, vineyards and quiet roads of the Allier. Go out for the day, or stay exactly where you are.

Where to go →

A wooden footbridge beside the stream under a canopy of green leaves, dappled sunlight across the boards and the path running on into the meadow.
The footbridge over the water, and the walk that starts on the other side.

Slow down

Running water, woodland, and room to do nothing.

Tall Douglas firs, open grass, a pond, a stream you can hear from bed and a fire most evenings. Bring a book you have been meaning to finish.
